Jobs & The Economy
It is clear that the Obama experiment with trillion dollar stimulus plans has failed to create jobs and grow our economy. Getting America back to work is the most important task ahead of the next Congress. A serious course correction needs to occur to jump start economic growth. We need to get the government out of the way of the entrepreneur and undo the policies and regulations enacted in the last four years that have stymied recovery. We need to increase our domestic energy production so that we have enough low cost energy to power our economy. We need to reform our tax policies to make America a more competitive place to do business and to start a business. We need to rein in spending and pay down our debt to restore the buying power of the Dollar and stave off inflation. As Congressman, I will promote a pro-growth economic agenda that will create the climate necessary for job creation.
Healthcare Reform
In 2010 Nancy Pelosi had the audacity to state, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it..” Since the passage of Obamacare we have learned that the 10 year cost estimate of the program has nearly doubled from 9 billion to 1.7 trillion and a recent study concludes that it will add $340 billion to the deficit. We have learned that the Obama Administration under the authority granted by Obamacare to the Health and Human Service Secretary will compel religious organizations and individuals to act against their conscience. The Democrats cleverly crafted this bill so the steep cuts to Medicare will kick in after the 2012 election. Obamacare has contributed to the slow recovery as it drives up the cost of adding employees for small businesses. Obamacare continues to maintain a high level of unpopularity with the American people who are able to see through the spin and reject this large step in the direction of European socialized medicine. As part of the new Congress and new Administration, I plan to vote for a full repeal of Obamacare and enact free-market based reforms in it’s place.
Energy Independence
I favor an ‘all of the above’ approach to energy production as a path to true energy independence. We need to further expand our extraction and production of traditional fuels and energy sources as well as explore emerging green energy technologies.
Over the last four years, the Obama Administration has waged war against our energy sector enacting regulations and policies that have hampered domestic energy production. Vast domestic energy resources lie untapped costing us at the pump and costing us thousands of high paying jobs. The Obama Administration’s incoherent energy policy that is supported by his accomplices in Congress has given us sustained high unemployment coupled with the rising cost of basic needs like food and gas for our cars to get to work. America has had enough.
To get Americans back to work and have enough inexpensive energy to power economic recovery, as Congressman I will support policies that accelerate domestic energy exploration and production, support the construction of the Keystone Pipeline and end government speculation with taxpayer money in the green energy industry.
National Debt & Spending
The Obama Administration has added 5 trillion to the national debt more than all other President’s combined. Adding this much debt almost ensures the servitude of children and grandchildren to paying down this bill. This burden will make the American dream almost completely unattainable. The next Congress will make have to make the tough decisions to rein in spending and pay down the national debt.
National Defense
The threat to America and her interests abroad have not diminished to the extent that the U.S. Government should be contemplating dramatic cuts to the Defense Department. This is not the time to reduce our missile arsenal. The transformation of our Military structure and inventory that began under Donald Rumsfeld must be allowed to continue. We must make sure that our Men and Women in Uniform have the best equipment and technology to keep them safe. When they come home, we must honor our obligations to those who have served and sacrificed. As Congressman, I will support policies that strengthen America’s Military and supports our Veterans.
Israel
Israel is one of the United States most important allies . Our alliance is not only a strategic one but also a spiritual one. The State of Israel is a beacon of freedom and democracy in the Middle East and the only country in the region where all faiths and ethnic groups are free to live and worship in peace and safety. Israel needs our assurance that the United States will be with her in her efforts to defend against terrorist attacks and the threat of nuclear annihilation from her enemies. This President is clearly only concerned with his re-election prospects and will do whatever is politically expedient with regard to U.S. support of Israel. He has belittled Prime Minister Netanyahu when he believed no one was listening and was also caught on a hot mic making overatures to Russian leaders that he will have more ‘flexibility’ on missile disarmament when the election is over. My opponent has been silent on this President’s capriciousness and seeming ‘flexibility’ with America’s National Security and the weakening of our relations with our ally Israel. As Congressman, I will be a constant voice of support for our Israel and our mutual interests.
2nd Amendment
“The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” These words from the 2nd Amendment are among the most important in our Bill of Rights as the 2nd Amendment is the right that protects all the others.
Politico has called McCarthy, ‘the fiercest gun-control advocate in Congress” for her relentless pursuit to strip guns from law-abiding citizens and for limiting the types of guns and magazines Americans can have.
CNN reported McCarthy was “introducing legislation that would effectively ban online ammunition sales” and would “require ammunition dealers to report bulk ammo sales to law enforcement.” She introduced the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007. McCarthy’s proposed act would ban 65 models of firearms, as opposed to the 19 models banned previously. In addition, McCarthy’s law would ban any semiautomatic rifle, shotgun, or handgun that was “originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm.” Her bill also included language that stated “a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event”
Sixteen years ago, McCarthy was elected to congress fromLong Island,New Yorkon a single issue: gun control.
We must remember that violence is about the people committing the crime not the guns themselves. InNew Yorkwe have some of the strictest gun laws in the entire nation, yet we are not immune to crimes and loss of life involving guns. In its attempts to stop gun violence, congress must not do anything to infringe upon the legitimate rights of hunters and sportsmen and the right of all Americans to defend themselves.
