“The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” These words from the 2nd Amendment are among the most important in our Bill of Rights as the 2nd Amendment is the right that protects all the others.
Politico has called McCarthy, ‘the fiercest gun-control advocate in Congress” for her relentless pursuit to strip guns from law-abiding citizens and for limiting the types of guns and magazines Americans can have.
CNN reported McCarthy was “introducing legislation that would effectively ban online ammunition sales” and would “require ammunition dealers to report bulk ammo sales to law enforcement.” She introduced the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007. McCarthy’s proposed act would ban 65 models of firearms, as opposed to the 19 models banned previously. In addition, McCarthy’s law would ban any semiautomatic rifle, shotgun, or handgun that was “originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm.” Her bill also included language that stated “a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event”
Sixteen years ago, McCarthy was elected to congress fromLong Island,New Yorkon a single issue: gun control.
We must remember that violence is about the people committing the crime not the guns themselves. InNew Yorkwe have some of the strictest gun laws in the entire nation, yet we are not immune to crimes and loss of life involving guns. In its attempts to stop gun violence, congress must not do anything to infringe upon the legitimate rights of hunters and sportsmen and the right of all Americans to defend themselves.
