CAROLYN McCARTHY: OUT FOR NO. 1 (AKA: HERSELF)
Congressional data reveals 16-year incumbent Democrat increased her own payroll by $300,000 while unemployment stands at over 8%; put Democrat Consulting Firm on Government Payroll and employed Barack Obama’s Campaign Manager
Almost two weeks since the National Bureau of Labor Statistics released new jobs data, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy hasn’t made a peep. Maybe it’s because the federal agency recently released data directly refuting Democrat claims that McCarthy and President Barack Obama have made “progress” in rebuilding our national and local economies.
“I don’t understand why Carolyn McCarthy has busted out her best Charlie Chaplin impersonation right now,” wondered Legislator Fran Becker, Republican candidate for Congress. “Maybe she’s been too busy this summer at her million dollar home in Southampton Town to actually care about our working families and seniors here in our community.”
McCarthy has consistently said nothing on the unimpressive jobs report out of Washington. But McCarthy’s m.o. shouldn’t surprise anyone- the long-time Member of Congress rarely says anything until pressured.
“It’s not surprising that Carolyn McCarthy won’t comment on the faltering economic recovery. While there was a small, two-tenths of a point dip in the unemployment rate – and it still stands over 8% now for more 43 straight months – it wasn’t because what she is doing is working. It’s because almost 368,000 American workers left the job market entirely. Carolyn McCarthy has failed us as our representative,” said Becker.
But while McCarthy remains silent, new data shows that the best employment opportunities out there continue to be working…directly for her.
McCarthy has increased her payroll by $300,000over the past few years according to Legistorm, a non-partisan website that disseminates public information from Congress to make the institution more accountable. And that’s even after congressmen’s “expense allowance, which includes all expenses including staff salaries, was cut 6.5% earlier this year on the heels of a 5% cut in 2011.Source:Legistorm
Until June 30 of this year, McCarthy has paid more than $224,000 in taxpayer money to her staffers, some of whom are shared employees. This amount includes approximately $10,000 per month for her Chief of Staff and $7,666 per month for her District Director and almost $6000 per month for her Communications Director – the former spokesman for the New York State Senate Democratic Campaign Committee. Also of note, McCarthy spent almost $30,000 of taxpayer money to Democrat media consulting firm SKDKnickerbocker, LLC for “Printing/Reproduction” on February 22, 2012.SKDKnickerboker “provides strategic advice, public relations, crisis communications, advertising, direct mail, and research” according to their website, in addition to political consulting.Source:US House of Representatives Statements of Disbursements
”It blows my mind that Carolyn McCarthy is spending taxpayer funds on a Democrat political consulting firm for her government mail.Maybe McCarthy and Assmebly Speaker Sheldon Silver should get together to see who can rip off taxpayers better,” said Becker for Congress spokesman Joe LoPresti, referencing Silver’s use of $106,000 taxpayer dollars used to pay-off victims of Assemblyman (and Kings County Democrat Chairman) Vito Lopez’s sexual harassment.
Carolyn McCarthy also once had Barack Obama’s campaign manager, Jim Messina, on her payroll as her Chief of Staff.Messina, who is currently under investigation for potentially violating the Presidential Records Act by using a personal e-mail account to discuss official business concerning the passage of ObamaCare, earned $7,666 per month as Chief of Staff (the current salary of McCarthy’s District Director). When Messina was on staff, McCarthy’s office total payroll was $704,887 for the year.Today, it is approximately $300,000 more.Source:Legistorm
”It’s time for new leadership in Washington.Carolyn McCarthy looks out only for herself and the folks working for her.I’m the only candidate in this race who is committed to creating jobs here in Nassau County and passing sensible policies in Washington to help our economy grow.My Middle Class Jobs Plan will put us on the road to recovery and get folks back to work.Carolyn McCarthy is just more of the same. After 16 years of her in Washington, it’s time for a well-needed change,” said Becker.
